Time for the spring care
Your lawn now needs to recover from the strains of winter. You can help it along by providing fertilizer. Early April is the ideal time to apply a slow-release fertilizer after the first mowing. However, be mindful of the weather: there should be no more frost. When you mow your lawn a second time, cut it very short—this should be about two to three weeks after the first mow. This gives you the opportunity, if needed, to remove moss and especially old thatch with a dethatcher. Bare patches can then be reseeded easily. If no prolonged dry spells are expected, you can also use an aerator to give the lawn roots some breathing room. By following these tips, your lawn will reward you with lush, healthy green.
